So Chapter 10 is talking about the heart of worship: an act of complete surrender. This actually linked to Chapter 9 and my experience about worshiping God. We sang 'Heart of Worship' last week and I burst-ed to tears. Adit said the song was written when people started to get carried away from the core intention of praise and worship session, which is to worship God. They started to forget why they sing, and got caught up in the act of singing and performing rather than to give in to the Lord.
And this happens often to us, Christians. We are doing His will, or we think we're doing His commandments but our heart has left Him. Pride has taken over and without even realizing it, we're lost. We don't know what's going on and slowly, emptiness replaces glory and peace from our heart. That's why we get bored going to church, we feel like nothing's changing in our life. We feel like we're not going anywhere with all the ministries we've been doing.
One way to tackle this problem is to move closer to God. Strip your heart; from pride, fear, people's expectations, money, family, friends, lovers, anything. Lay down everything in front of God and just give in to Him, trust Him, and admit that you're wrong. Read His words, pray, praise, have faith, think about His words night and day, don't think about not having fun, don't think about whether the music's good or not, but think about how you can sacrifice yourself to Lord, how you can surrender your heart to Him. Don't hold back.
Pray to Him so your life can go according to His plan, and not yours. Well of course, lay down your needs, your thoughts and heart for Him, but also acknowledge that if something that you want doesn't fulfill His purpose, then you should follow His plan, because at the end of the day, it's all about pleasing God, and not yourself. And actually, by pleasing God, you're opening the path for your true happiness.
Think about things that hold you back from giving in to Jesus. Is it your fear, your pride, or your stubbornness? Learn to let go of it. Pray to God to give you strength to be better.
When the music fades, all is stripped way
And I simply come
Longing just to bring something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll give You more than a song, for a song in itself
It's not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart...
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the things I've made it
When it's all about You, Jesus...
Heart of Worship - Matt Redman
