Not that I'm such a sensitive person who cannot take a joke and laugh about myself, or in this case, about my belief. But I think the screen writers are a bit of stereotype in describing a Christian. In this movie, they picture a Christian girl who could not take the fact that alien does exist and forcing her belief by arguing with Paul, the alien. And when she finally saw him with her own eyes she got shocked and realized that she could do a lot of things that was once forbidden as she was a Christian: smoking, fornicating, cursing, etc..
And in the end, she told Paul that he's not freaking her out or anything but he made her free.
Not to mention how they described the father, who was some kind of a priest. He brought gun to save his daughter (the Christian girl) and brought bible everywhere, who's in the end, shot the good guy.
...
That part wasn't funny at all.
How come turning from someone who believe to someone who smokes, fornicates, and curses is making you free?????
I assure you, I enjoy science fiction. I mean I watched Star Trek, I loooove Roswell, and Smallville is one of my favorite TV Shows. But propagate Christian like this is only making people think like, 'Ooh, that's what Christian look like, NOT free.' And we're anything but NOT free.
Why did they do that? I think I'd never know. But I just want to let all the readers know that Christians are not like that. Hollywood plays an important role in sending messages to people they entertain. And there are countless innocent people who would jump to a fast conclusion that Christians are 'boring', 'crazy' and 'not free'.
Though I have mentioned it before somewhere in my previous posts, I'm gonna say it again now. Christianity is not only about religion. It is a lifetstyle based on your relationship with The Lord, Jesus Christ. And when you get to know God, it's not going to be boring. It's not going to turn you into a lunatic. It's not going to erase your logic. It's not going to make you less fun or cool.
It will bring joy, happiness, and peace of mind. It will grow love in your heart, and it will give you knowledge you're too scared to imagine to be known. I don't want people to think that Christians are freak. Stereotyping is judging. And whatever happens to respect? To 'Do not judge a book by its cover'? Especially when the cover was exploited and designed by people who don't know what the book is about.
It hurts me deeply to know that there will be many people who would nod their head agreeing about the attitude the girl was displaying. I'm not really recommending this movie, to be honest. There are still so many good alien movies of which do not despise the value of Christianity.
